Dunlap Middle School
2018 Cross Country Requirements/expectations
*You are a student/athlete. Studies come first and then your extracurricular activities. If you don’t keep your grades up, you are not only hurting yourself, you are hurting the team. You should be giving your all not only on the course and in practice, but also in the classroom.
*You must come to practice with a positive attitude. Come ready to work hard each day with an open mind. Practices are intended to help build you both physically and mentally. When you bring a positive attitude, you improve the entire team. Cell phones are not allowed.
*I expect parents to encourage all members of the team as well. In addition, good communication is key to a successful program. I will also strive to have the best communication possible as well.
*You are expected to be at all practices. If for some reason you must miss a practice, please make sure to e-mail me ahead of time or give me a note. Verbally telling me you are going to miss a practice will not be accepted. Also, please try to schedule appointments during non-practice time as much as possible. My e-mail is [email protected]
*We will practice during the rain, snow, sleet, and wind. The only time practice will be cancelled is if there is lightning and thunder. We will practice in all elements because the meets will not be cancelled unless there is thunder or lightning. Please make sure to bring appropriate attire. Once the weather starts to get colder, warmer clothes will be needed.
*My goal is for every runner to improve and reach his/her full potential. Each athlete is an important part of the team. If you are the best runner on the team, or the slowest runner on the team, you each have room to improve. With the proper effort and attitude, together we will accomplish this improvement throughout the season.
*I expect athletes to stay at a meet through all races. You must check out on the sign out sheet prior to leaving. Although cross country is an individual sport, it is also a team sport. I expect you to encourage all teammates. If you are leaving with a parent/guardian, he/she must sign out on the sign out board.
